How to prevent the occurrence of caries and preserve dental health?

There are two factors which affect your mouth cavity:

  • personal hygiene
  • proper diet

In everyday life, there are many ways and possibilities which can be used for the preservation of teeth and mouth hygiene.

Personal hygiene

Use of toothbrush and toothpaste is most common and of utmost importance. By use of toothbrush all deposits from your teeth, gums, and tongue are removed, which contributes to health and freshness of the mouth cavity. It is necessary to brush your teeth at least twice a day, in the morning after waking up, before breakfast, and in the evening before bed.

Toothbrushes

There are several sizes (small, medium, large), sharpness (soft, medium and hard) and materials (artificial and natural) which can differentiate toothbrushes. It is not advised to use hard brushes because they can cause damage to dental enamel and retraction of gums. Brushing your teeth should last about 5 min.
It is important to change your toothbrush once in two months, if necessary even earlier.

Interdental toothbrushes

Their use is advised instead of dental floss. For easier use, there is an attachment which is placed on the interdental brush. There are different sizes and the patient is advised the best one based on space between two neighbor teeth.

Toothpaste

Most of the toothpaste which is in everyday use contain all the ingredients necessary for quality use. An elementary and most important ingredient of toothpaste is fluoride which can be found in a form of sodium fluoride or monofluorophosphate. Other than fluoride toothpaste contains abrasives, sweeteners, detergents, colors, and different aromas.

Mouthwash

An important part of good oral health can be overwritten by the use of mouthwash. They most often contain                  chlorhexidine or fluorine and are used exclusively under the instructions of the manufacturer or under the supervision of a dentist.

Proper diet

In everyday diet, food consumed is of different content and portions. For general health and for the health of your teeth, it is necessary to take care of taking in as much raw, unprocessed food i.e use of fresh food, fruits, and vegetables. It is important not to take in the food in the evening, after brushing the teeth because the night is the best period in the mouth for bacteria development and also caries.

Regular checkups at the dentists

The dentist takes to care for the oral health of every individual and follows the state of the cavity during regular checkups over the course of six months. Depending on the needs dentists will give advice and apply proper therapeutic methods all in the cause of preserving the health of the mouth.
